ONE COMMUNITY

ONE Community is a condensed version of our week long residential institute JUST Community where freshman, sophomores and juniors in high school have an immersion experience designed to explore the issues that divide us as people (race, class, gender/sexual orientation, religion, and violence) and gain the skills to be leaders in creating more inclusive and just communities through positive institutional change in their spheres of influence.

ONE Community differs from our summer institute in that rather than having students from a number of different schools in the Greater Cincinnati area, the participants all come from just ONE school community. The intent is to provide a catalyst experience for young people, teachers, and school administrators from which they can emerge as change agents in their particular school.

Purpose: To provide students with an opportunity to identify, discuss and collectively address the issues that divide them, and to co-create strategies and develop leadership skills necessary to make their school and community a more inclusive, accepting and nurturing environments for ALL students, teachers, and staff. It is the long range aim of this program that participants will be prepared to live and work successfully in our society’s larger pluralistic environment.
