JUST COMMUNITY: Youth Leadership Institute
July 6 - 12, 2008
Imagine a place where your spiritual beliefs are respected and valued — and not the punch-line to a mean spirited joke.

Imagine a place where your race is only one part of what defines you, and not the total measure of who you are or will ever be.

Imagine a place where what it means to be rich, poor or someplace in-between is something you get to define for yourself and not have assumed about you.

Imagine a place where violence is unnecessary because understanding and respect are actions, not just words.

Imagine a place where being, thinking, feeling or loving someone different isn't wrong, bad or immoral… it's just different.
Is there such a place?

JUST Community: Youth Leadership Institute is such a place. JUST Community (formerly known as Anytown) is a week long residential experience for youth 15-17 years of age who are ready to confront tough issues and bridge the differences that divide us as people. Founded in the belief that actual knowledge, understanding and friendship make it much harder to hate, JUST Community provides freshman, sophomores, and juniors from high schools throughout the Greater Cincinnati area with the opportunity to live with, work with, share with and learn with their peers from different backgrounds, beliefs and experiences. Through workshops, adventure/challenge activities, games and lessons in living, 50 youth, along with our counselors and advisors, create a community that learns to embrace diversity and practice inclusion, equity and justice for all.

JUST Community participants:
• Take pride in their backgrounds and beliefs
• Share their experiences
• Become critical thinkers who seek to understand and suspend judgment
• Challenge themselves and support others in doing so as well
• Stretch their comfort zones
• Define their own style of leadership
• Become change agents for their communities and schools

“I used to think my opinions and views were too different, but now I know there are others who will accept me for who I am”
JUST Community Delegate, July 2006

WHO WILL BE THERE?
