Now celebrating its 10th Anniversary, the Walk for a Just Community, formerly Walk as One, is an inspiring event promoting inclusion, equity, and justice for all! Last year alone the event involved over 2,000 people and raised almost $200,000! The Walk is the preeminent event of its kind in this region for promoting the value of diversity and necessity of an inclusive community, and the proceeds benefit the critical programs of both BRIDGES for a Just Community and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.

The event begins at 10:00 on October 18th, 2008 at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and ends there after a route that takes walkers through both Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The route is 3.1 miles (5K) long to make it more accessible for those with special needs, families, and senior citizens! Additionally, there is the opportunity to participate in the Annual Freedom Run, which is a registered 5K, with a $25.00 entrance fee. After the Walk and Run, we’ll have entertainment from local dance troupes, choirs, and other artists. This celebration is truly a display of the rich ethnic and cultural compilation of our region.

Walk teams are forming now for this year’s fantastic event! There is no minimum team size or registration fee for walkers. We ask that each walker set an individual fundraising goal that begins at $100.00. BRIDGES Development Manager, Anna Hehman, is available for help with team recruitment, organization, fundraising ideas and tricks, and Walk promotion, including brochures and posters. Also, each team is to recruit a Team Captain, whose job it is to recruit and organize walkers. Anna is also eager to come speak to your organization to help energize and motivate your workplace to join the Walk efforts! Contact her at (513) 381-4660 or anna.hehman@bridgescincinnati.org.
